What to Pack in Your Bag for a Day Out in Las Vegas with Kids
If you are a mom taking kids out in Las Vegas in the summer you already know that preparation is everything. One minute you are having the best day and the next someone is melting down because they are hot, hungry, or just done. I have four kids ranging from 1 to 10 years old so my bag has to work for a baby, a toddler, and two older kids all at the same time. It is a lot but I have my system down and I am sharing everything with you today. Here is exactly what I pack for a day out in Las Vegas with my kids!
The Bag
First things first, you need a good bag. I personally love a backpack style diaper bag because it keeps my hands free and fits everything I need without feeling like I am hauling a suitcase. A regular tote just does not cut it when you have multiple kids and need both hands at all times.
Diapers and Wipes
If you have a baby or toddler this is non-negotiable. I always pack more than I think I will need because Las Vegas days have a way of going longer than planned. I also keep a small travel pack of wipes separate from the main pack because I use them for everything – sticky hands, spills, sweaty faces, you name it.
Extra Clothes for Everyone
This one took me a while to learn. I pack an extra outfit for the baby and toddler always, and at least an extra shirt for the older kids. Between sweat, spills, and splash pads you will almost always need it. I keep them in a small zip bag so they stay clean and organized at the bottom of the bag.
Water Bottles for Every Kid
Staying hydrated in Las Vegas heat is not optional. I have a water bottle for every single one of my kids and I refill them constantly throughout the day.
Snacks for All Ages
Hungry kids in Las Vegas heat is a recipe for disaster. I always pack snacks that work for multiple ages so I am not carrying five different things. Some of my go to options are pouches for the baby and toddler, goldfish or pretzels for the middle kids, and granola bars or fruit snacks for everyone. I keep them in a small insulated pouch so they do not melt or get warm.
Sunscreen
This is the most important thing on this list and I am not exaggerating. The Las Vegas sun will get you so fast, especially in the summer. I use a spray sunscreen for the older kids because it is quick and easy to apply and reapply throughout the day. For the baby I use a gentle mineral sunscreen.
Chapstick
This one sounds small but trust me your lips will thank you. The Las Vegas heat and dry air is brutal and everyone in the family needs chapstick. I keep a few in my bag at all times.
Stroller Fan
This is an absolute game changer and one of my most recommended items for any Las Vegas mom. A clip on fan that attaches to the stroller keeps the baby and toddler so much cooler and happier during outings. I have two on the stroller. One for each of them. The difference it makes on a hot day is incredible. I would not leave the house without it in the summer.
Toys and Entertainment for the Little Ones
When you have a 1 and 3 year old you need something to keep them occupied while the older kids are having fun. I always pack a few small toys that the toddler loves and something for the baby to chew on or play with. Small board books, a favorite stuffed animal, or a simple activity toy all work really well. The key is keeping it small and light.
A Portable First Aid Kit
With four active kids someone always gets a scrape or a headache or needs a bandaid. I keep a small first aid kit in my bag at all times. It has bandaids, antiseptic wipes, children’s pain reliever, and a few other basics. It has saved us more times than I can count. I have a bigger one for my car and a small one for my bag.
Bonus Tips
Always check the weather before you leave and dress the kids in light breathable fabrics. Try to plan outdoor portions of your day for the morning before the heat peaks. If you are going somewhere with a lot of walking bring the stroller even for older toddlers because tired legs plus heat equals meltdown. And always always always have more snacks than you think you need. You will never regret overpacking snacks.
I hope this helps you feel a little more prepared for your next Las Vegas family outing! What is something you never leave home without? Tell me in the comments!
